The source of all intolerance

I’m pretty sure Dobson hates homosexuality more than he loves god.
This article about anger towards religion got me going. I’ll end up discussing many things on that list.
One of my most angry moments was a few years ago at LifeLight, a Christian music festival. It was at the Sunday morning worship service that James Dobson was speaking. He spent the entire time railing against gay people and Daschle (this was just before the election Daschle lost). People stood up and cheered as he demanded that any politician supportive of gay rights should be voted out.
I sat with my arms crossed, remembering the hypocrisy that drove me from organized religion. Was this glorifying god? Was this loving your neighbor? Was this giving to Caesar what is Caesars? Even if god sees gay people as an abomination (like shellfish), he clearly doesn’t want us to persecute them, he says love is the answer. Even if we shouldn’t love them, rights afforded by our government are an institution of Caesar, and Christians shouldn’t bother themselves with it. It seems clear to be: the biblical example is to live an excellent life that others will respect and want to emulate. Then if you want to tell them they can’t without giving up their natural desires, so be it.
I could really respect a religion like that.
